MAKING MAGAZINES REPRESENTATIVE

MAGAZINE PROJECTS

My magazine is my best friend, there’s no unspoken rule. Whether I’m going through a break-up, education stress, stock on what career path to take or any growing pain. My best friend is also right there giving me the best
Advice speaking directly to me without knowing me or asking for anything in return. Instead all it wants from me, is to engage with the text. As I’ve grown up I feel like there has been a disconnect .... conflict of interest between my best friend and I .... Although its speaking at me it’s not speaking to me. Having the right skills needed I have taken it upon myself to be the editor & chief of my very own magazine. This has given me the creative freedom to construct my very own best friend from my imagination

BLACK ALLURE

Health & Wellbeing issue

I further developed the idea of the magazine as a Midlands based R&B magazine titled Black Allure with the aim to promote health and wellbeing among young black females. The magazine is written by young females for young black females.

BLACK ALLURE

Black Allure magazine

My idea for Black Allure evolved
as I noted a lack of black female representation within mainstream print magazines. I was also under the impression that black British culture is not celebrated enough. Eager to create a platform where the ‘everyday’ black female can be given a voice, be embraced and be given guidance. Black Allure will ll in

the gap in the market where many U.K magazines missed the mark

RADIO

Dark Girls - Radio Package

During my first year of university I participated in a radio production module. We were given the task to create a five-minute radio package of our choice, I decided to produce a factual documentary style package. The basis of my package was to document the struggle and oppression young black girls face growing up in a westernised society.

This Module helped me develop basic radio skills and helped gain an insight of the different techniques when developing a radio package, for example delivering a serious tone speech in order to set the tone of the package.
